About Dr. Andre Plate

Work Experience

For the past 6 years, I worked in the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute. I provided individual therapy to patients struggling with depression, grief, anxiety disorders, stress, PTSD/trauma, and difficulties adjusting to chronic health conditions. Although this is not my only area of specialty, I have unique expertise in working with cancer survivors to help them cope with the unique challenges that come with being diagnosed and treated for cancer.

My Style & Approach To Therapy

Evidence-Based Treatment

I’m a strong advocate for evidence-based treatments, meaning I provide therapy that is supported by scientific research.

Cutting-Edge Treatment

I primarily use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based approaches.

Collaborative Growth

I take a collaborative approach to therapy and I’m passionate about teaching patients to become their own therapists by learning coping skills that ease their suffering and help them move toward a life with more meaning, purpose, and fulfillment.

Outside the Office

When I’m not working, I value spending quality time with my wife and 3 children. I enjoy exercising, cooking and grilling, trying new restaurants/food in Pittsburgh, experiencing the heartbreak of following my favorite sports teams, and waking up early to savor a freshly brewed cup of coffee. My ultimate self-care activity is relaxing in the sauna. I also enjoy meditating each day.
